One thing is universal: everyone gets older. Getting old is a fact of life, and there is no reason to hide from it or try to avoid it. Embracing it is the best thing to do. Here are a few aging tips to make sure you continue to have a great life even as you get older.

Eat your veggies! We all were told it as kids and it matters just as much as we age. Antioxidants that are found naturally in vegetables actually will help keep your cells from aging too rapidly. They protect us from the aging that is done to our cells by oxidative damage.

Have your hormone levels checked regularly as you age. You will want to have your doctor run standardized tests to be sure that your levels are where they should be. Taking hormone replacement or supplements may be the fix to the way that you have been feeling if you have been feeling bad.

Step up your fitness routine. When you get older you will need to be more active to stay strong. Take some quick walks for thirty minutes, at least five days every week. Compliment this with a few weight lifting workouts a couple times a week. This will help you stay fit, which will keep you young and lively.

As we age, our body decreases in hormone production, such as testosterone and estrogen. You doctor may prescribe hormone replacement therapy drugs. These drugs can cause harmful side effects, so they should be taken under physician’s supervision only.

When you age sometimes you feel you have earned the right to be an ornery individual and not treat people as well as you should. This could not be farther from the truth. In order for people to treat you with respect and dignity you must also show them the same respect and dignity.

Don’t smoke! Smoking has been shown to prematurely age you. Not only can it make you look older, but it can actually reduce your life expectancy. If you stop smoking, your body will start to repair itself within a day of no longer smoking. This will lower your risk for heart and lung diseases.

Work at making your meals flavorful. As you age your taste-buds aren’t as sensitive as they used to be, so if you are losing your appetite and still need the nutrition, make a special effort to spice and flavor your food so that you will feel motivated to eat it.

As a body ages bone loss is a great risk. It is a greater risk for women going through menopause. Eat lots of dark leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, molasses and tofu. Adding seaweed to your diet is great, as seaweeds contain a lot of calcium and magnesium.

Even though you can’t avoid getting older, there is one thing you can control: your attitude about getting older. If you take these tips and apply them, your life will improve. But if you adjust your attitude, you life can be truly wonderful. Stay positive, and your future is bright.
